Artist Statement

Throughout my life I have always loved color and art. It just makes me happy. As a child my favorite toys were my Lite Brite and my crayons. My whole life I’ve loved making things with my hands and have always felt a strong pull towards art. Growing up in Kansas and Colorado, I was blessed that the public-school systems valued art. In Junior High and Highschool I took every art class available and was able to experience all types of mediums.

I’ve always dreamed of being a painter so in 2015, with my three grown kids out of the house I signed up for watercolor classes and a whole new world opened up to me. I look at everything in a different way. I see shapes and colors and values in everything. I’ve studied with numerous artists to soak up everything that I can. I have ventured into oil painting and can’t get enough! I’m humbled and excited by the infinite possibilities of learning and creating.

I love to paint nature, as well as still life and most recently in plein air. Mostly, I want to paint happy things. I want people to feel happy when they see my paintings. I love the magical effects of watercolor. The medium can paint itself if you let it. I love the vivid, velvety expressive marks of oils. It just makes me happy.

When I’m not painting you can find me in my garden, taking photos out in nature for future paintings or spending time with my friends and family. And probably enjoying some wine!

Thank you for your interest in my art!
